Configuration Combo Solution

B2B Enterprise Web App (2016 - 2017)

PROJECT BRIEF

This AT&T Virtual Private Network (VPN) interface allows network engineers the ability to configure and manage their primary and backup routers within their complex AVPN configurations.

THE PROBLEM

  • There was a learning curve in order to understand the product from a technical perspective.
  • There were 22 flows that needed to be redesigned under an urgent deadline.

THE PROCESS - UNDERSTANDING THE PROBLEM

Map out the current work flows in order to gain an understanding of the existing functionality. Determine the entrypoint into a new design space.

THE PROCESS - MEETING THE TEAM

Perform whiteboarding sessions with the product owners and product analyst.

THE PROCESS - BRAINSTORMING

The primary target users are network engineers. There were flaws with the old system design that led to a disconnect between groups of information which made things difficult to track and piece together. Several solutions were created to integrate the network configuration in a logical and easy to manage fashion.

THE PROCESS - DRAW OUT SOLUTIONS

  • Examine the details of each configuration property and determine what dependencies exist
  • Design multiple solutions for each configuration to find a best overall fit in the design space
  • Pick the best solution for each configuration type and develop logical groupings to show dependencies

THE PROCESS - DRAFT AND FINAL DESIGN
